Karl D. Frederickson Elected State Commander

Karl D. Frederickson, was elected State Commander at the Sons Thirty First annual Convention held in Kearney, Nebraska, June 29, 2008.  Karl, is the son of the late Darrell E. Frederickson and Phyllis J. Frederickson, and his membership is based on his father Darrell's service in the U.S. Navy during WWII.  He is a 1975 graduate of Malvern Community Schools and a 1979 graduate of Peru State College.

Karl, has held many leadership positions in the Sons of The American Legion including Local, District and Detachment.  He is an 11 year member of South Omaha Squadron 331 and during his two years as Squadron Commander they were 100% in membership.  He has been accepted into the Sons of The American Legion National Management Institute and has completed courses 1 and 2.

Karl has been married 28 years to Omaha native Sherry L. Frederickson and they have two children.  He is also a member of F.O.E. South Omaha #154, Beehive Masonic Lodge #184 and I.A.T.S.E Local #42.  A self employed contractor for the past 18 years, he is also the USAPL Federation Men's Master 3, 242 class Nebraska state bench press record holder and was ranked 2nd nationally in 2007 in the USAPL.

Detachment Commander Frederickson has a theme this year of "Lift up for Kids".  This project is primarily focused on raising awareness and fundraising to support the Legacy Scholarship Fund to assist children who have lost a family member to the war on terror.  Providing for the children our military personnel left behind is our civic duty.  An education is a powerful way to show our thanks.  This is why The American Legion established the Legacy Scholarship Fund.  But we need your help.

Money provided by law simply has not kept up with higher education costs today, let alone what college will cost in years to come.  Remember, these children are the direct descendants of people who died protecting our country.  Their parents made the ultimate sacrifice.  The least we can do is make sure they are provided for.

We need your help to make the Legacy Scholarship Fund a reality.  Too many men and women have died in the fight to preserve our nation's freedom.  Together, we can make sure their children have the opportunity their parents were unable to provide.  We encourage you to please give generously to the Legacy Scholarship fund.  Thank you.  Please make checks payable to:  Sons of The American Legion, 4830 S 21st St, Omaha, NE  68107

PREAMBLE TO THE SAL CONSTITUTION

To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a true spirit of Americanism; to preserve the memories of our former members and the associations of our members and our forefathers in the Great Wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our friendship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness; to adopt in letter and spirit all of the great principles for which The American Legion stands; and to assist in carrying on for God and Country.
